Berlin's America is a one hour bio-musical about the life, times and music of Irving Berlin. Beginning with his fist hit, "Alexander's Ragtime Band" in 1911, Berlin's enormous contribution to the Great American Songbook over the next 60 years is narrated and sung with gusto and verve. For over three decades cellist Christopher Costanza has enjoyed a varied and exciting career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. A winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and a recipient of a prestigious Solo Recitalists Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Mr. Costanza has performed to wide critical acclaim in nearly every state in the U.S. and internationally. In 2003 Mr. Costanza joined the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Ensemble
in Residence at Stanford University; he performs over one hundred concerts annually with that ensemble, worldwide.

With their combined 100+ years of playing music, Carl Grantham (violin, guitar, vocals) & Bundy
Browne (guitar, mandolin, vocals) perform live music for revisiting the best times of your life and
will have you tapping your feet. Enjoy music from years past that includes masters of song such
as Glen Campbell, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and
many more. You may even hear some real oldies such as “Sunny Side of the Street” mixed in
with a few “one-hit wonders” that bring back some great memories.

Come learn how the Lamplighters Music Theatre Company kept the 100 year old operettas fresh and relevent. The Lamplighters is the OLDEST theatre company in San Francisco! Founded in 1952 to perform operettas, particularly the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, the company is globally acknowledged as one of the best G & S companies in the world. The Woodside Elementary School Jazz Band, under the direction of Beth Dameron, is the most prominent performing group at the school. It is made up of 6th-8th grade students who demonstrate dedication and strong work ethic by rehearsing before school twice each week, learning music for several different performances that bring the school and Woodside community together. The Jazz Band performed at a First Friday event in the spring of 2019 and is happy to return for its second time after rebuilding the group post-COVID. The First Friday performance will include music from several genres, with a strong focus on jazz, and that demonstrates musical evolution through several decades.

The 15,000 square foot addition will showcase many of its pristine carriages, on one floor, while allowing another floor to be dedicated to changing displays in an automobile gallery. Learn how the project began (with its crucial Woodside connections) and what its progress is to date.

Located in Redwood City, California, his studio has been a hub for creating public art and community projects for over a decade. Fernando Escartiz has done the props for the San Francisco Symphony and Redwood City Day of the Dead Events for the last 13 years. The Redwood City celebration gathers around 8,000 people every year.

John Singer Sargent went to Madrid when he was 23 to study Velasquez first hand. He soon fell in love with everything Spanish, returning 6 more times, and visiting 26 Spanish cities.

Mary Cassatt holds a unique place in the history of American artists. She spent 60 years in France and she was the only American to have exhibited with the impressionists. She never married or had children, but her reputation was secured by her tender portrayal of the relationship between mother and child. She was a close friend of Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot and Camille Pissarro. Her paintings are in the collections of most major museums, but she was also considered to be one of the greatest print makers of her generation.

Clear out the winter doldrums and open a window into California’s botanical past as Kathy Korbholz shares images of wildflowers growing in Edgewood Natural Preserve. You will learn why Edgewood, a hidden gem within our neighborhood, remains a refuge for several threatened and endangered species. You will hear how to sign up for free, docent-led wildflower hikes or take your own walk with the help of the Friends of Edgewood weekly wildflower survey.

On the ocean side of King’s Mountain lies the internationally acclaimed Djerassi Resident Artists Program, created by one of Woodside’s most celebrated families. The mission of the Program is to support and enhance the creativity of artists by providing uninterrupted time for work, reflection, and collegial interaction in a setting of great natural beauty on which the program is situated. The photographs in Robert Buelteman’s second monograph, Eighteen Days in June, were first made during his 1995 commission by the Peninsula Open Space Trust to document the land and then his subsequent residency at the Artists Program in 1996. Since that time, Buelteman has enjoyed multiple residencies and led several workshops on ways of seeing as well as making photographs using alternate non-digital methods including
his celebrated cameraless photographs. Please join us for a deep look from the photographer’s point of view spanning nearly 30 years
at this exceptional Woodside institution. Books will be available for sale.

The San Francisco Bay Area has been named a biodiversity hotspot by Conservation International due to the unusually high concentration of plant and animal species. Unfortunately, there is a great risk of human impact on this biodiversity as we have already suffered the loss of over 70% of natural habitats. The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen), a regional greenbelt system, strives to protect this open space and has preserved a network of diverse and unparalleled beauty in one of the country’s most populated areas. Currently Midpen comprises over 70,000 acres of land
in 27 open space preserves.

Jaeger & Reid (Judi Jaeger and Bob Reid) are very happy to be back at Woodside’s First Friday Concert. From Oakland, CA, Jaeger & Reid combine Judi’s Canadian background, striking vocals and intelligent songs with Bob’s California upbringing and his own engaging original tunes.

Please join us as we welcome Flea Street Band, a San Carlos based ukulele
ensemble band composed of members from the Peninsula Ukulele Group. They will lead us in a fun set of Country Rock songs including favorites from The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Band. The seven-member band consists of ukulele players and vocalists, a guitar player, a bass player, a pianist and a drummer. They have performed regularly throughout the SF and SF Peninsula areas. Song sheets will be projected up on the big screen. Several ukuleles will be provided by the library or bring your own! Even if you don’t play, come sing along!

Sarah Killingworth, certified California Naturalist and photographer, gives us an inside look at a bobcat mother raising her young in a California suburb, and learn about the ways we impact bobcats with our day to day decisions as they are increasingly found in backyards and neighborhoods.

Jennifer Fraser is a fine art photographer for whom “chasing the light” has taken her to locations ranging from Kashmir, India, to Myanmar, and most recently, Trappers Lake, Colorado. The aim of her work is to capture unique landscape images in pursuit of “a certain slant of light”.
